Philosophy & Curriculum

The play-based curriculum for young children comes from real life experiences carefully woven together by the teacher as facilitator. Free choice “work time” (play time), as well as teacher-led group activities, will take place daily. Multi-sensory activities are planned to encourage learning in music, art, social studies, science, math, reading, large and small motor skills. Bible stories covering the basics of the Christian faith from the Old and New Testament of the Bible are also taught age appropriately. A component of the curriculum, especially for 4-5 year-olds, is alphabet letter recognition and sounds. Planned activities take into account the individual needs and interests of each child in the group, regardless of age.

A Typical Morning Schedule

The schedule is very flexible and may vary depending on each child’s needs, interests, and abilities for the day. The schedule is a tool to make the day run more smoothly and to give the students a feeling of adhering to a routine.

The Afternoon Schedule will include lunch, rest time, more physical activities, one-on-one review and group enrichment activities, free choice “work time” and story time.

Good Shepherd Preschool is MN State Licensed. This means that our program is inspected yearly to ensure we are meeting standards determined to create safe, child friendly and suitable spaces. This includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Exceeding the minimum requirement of materials/supplies/equipment to foster creativity and learning for all children on a daily basis;
  2. Offering catered hot lunch served from our newly remodeled Licensed kitchen;
  3. Maintaining a large, beautiful, fenced-in playground with ample “wood carpet” surface for softening impact, and incorporating “natural wood” elements for creative and physically challenging play;
  4. Locking the premises during the school hours.

We care about providing an environment that is not only educationally solid and faith building, but also adheres to the highest health and safety standards.
